7 OUTDOOR GYMS TO TRY THIS SUMMER IN GREATER MONTREAL

Gabrielle Picard, writer, Nxt Generation PHYSIO

Working out from home is great, but working out outside is even better! In terms of public jungle gyms, Greater Montreal is full of them. More than 25 city parks have calisthenic-inspired installations for you to try. The Trekfit outdoor gyms, a Quebec company, hold many stations : asymmetric bars, balance beams, benches and ropes. All devices are equipped with explanatory signs suggesting the appropriate movements and solicited muscles.

And that’s not all, you’ll also find QR codes that you can scan with your phone to access explanatory videos. These outdoor gyms are therefore the perfect place for CrossFit, gymnastics or fitness enthusiasts

So here are our 7 favourite parks for training under the sun this summer.

JEAN-DRAPEAU PARK

Parc Jean-Drapeau

The Jean-Drapeau Park is well-known to Montrealers for the many festivals and events that take place there every year. However, only a few knows that it also offers several training facilities. More than 17 modules make this park a must for outdoor training. In the middle of nature, beams and benches are at your disposal for an effective workout

DES RAPIDES PARK

Parc des rapides

In Lasalle district is one of the most complete outdoor Trekfit gyms. Beams, a ladder, bars and benches await for you to perfect your gymnastics skills or simply strengthen your muscles. The location is ideal – on the banks of the Lachine rapids, a popular spot for surfers as well. You’ll therefore have a breathtaking view of the water, in addition to having the opportunity to surf after your workout.

CARTIERVILLE YMCA

YMCA-Cartierville

In front of the Sports and Community Center of Cartierville are several training stations for all levels. They include a push-up and pull-up bar, a rope, parallel bars and even a balance beam. And if you feel like it, you can even cool off at the YMCA pool after your steamy workout in the sun.

TOUSSAINT-LOUVERTURE PARK

Parc Toussaint-Louverture

In Ville-Marie, this outdoor gym features many benches and different bar stations to try, conveniently in the shade, during hot summer days. And while you’re at it, why not take the opportunity to let loose by playing a soccer game in the field next to the jungle gym?

SIR-WILFRID-LAURIER PARK

Parc Sir-Wilfrid-Laurier

Located in the heart of Plateau-Mont-Royal, the Sir-Wilfrid-Laurier Park offers various training structures accessible to all. Bike lovers, you can even complete your workout by cycling to the area since the park is crossed by a bike bath.

BONAVENTURE OVERPASS – PEEL BASIN

Below the Bonaventure Viaduct is this small outdoor training center. Push-up, bars, benches, calisthenic structures and even a giant tire are at your disposal to train in the shade. You will also have the chance to strengthen your biceps with a superb view of downtown Montreal.

MAYNARD-FERGUSON PARK

Parc Maynard-Ferguson

This little heavenly spot is perfect for nature lovers. You can train in a park full of greenery, in addition to being able to enjoy the view of the water. You will find bars, benches, beams and laddes. As a bonus, this Trekfit station is located a few minutes from our clinic in St-Henri! So this couldn’t be more practical – come visit us and make sure your body is at its best to train on the different structures.

Now, you have more than enough options to choose from, to train outside in Greater Montreal.

Enjoy the fresh air and don’t forget your sunscreen!
