Swim Analysis in Montreal

Swim Technique Analysis in Montreal: Improve Your Pool Performance

NxtG Swim Pro Approach

Swim analysis, also called a biomechanical swimming assessment, allows us to thoroughly evaluate your technique in order to identify the factors that limit your efficiency in the water. An inefficient stroke can lead to increased fatigue, decreased performance, and even the development of pain, especially in the shoulders, neck, or lower back.

What is the NxtG Swim Pro training?

The NXTG Swim Pro training is an exclusive internal program developed by Dominic, owner of NXT Generation PHYSIO. Its purpose is to ensure our therapists develop strong expertise in swim analysis and technique correction.

What is the swimmer analysis protocol?

At NxtG PHYSIO, our swimmer analysis protocol combines an out-of-water biomechanical assessment, in-pool video observation, and real-time technical corrections performed directly poolside.

Each session is personalized based on your goals. Whether you want to improve efficiency, prevent injuries, or adjust your stroke while dealing with pain, our goal is to provide clear, practical recommendations that fit your reality.

WHY GET A SWIM ANALYSIS

Receive a personalized approach
Every swimmer is different. That’s why our analysis takes into account your level, goals, training volume, and injury history. Our professional guidance helps provide corrections tailored to your needs, improving your efficiency and refining your stroke technique.
Maximize your swimming potential
Our video analysis, filmed from multiple angles including underwater GoPro footage, allows us to precisely identify both your strengths and the key areas to improve. After your appointment, you will receive your personalized video to help you better understand and apply the recommended adjustments.
Build a training plan adapted to your needs
Based on the results of your analysis, we can guide you or build a targeted training plan. This plan focuses on the technical elements identified during the session, helping you swim more efficiently and with better structure.
Prevent swimming-related injuries
Swim technique analysis helps identify inefficient movement patterns, muscular imbalances, or mobility restrictions that can increase stress on certain structures, especially the shoulders. Correcting these factors helps reduce the risk of overuse injuries.
Track your progress over time
Repeating swim analyses periodically allows you to compare video footage and measure your technical improvement. This approach helps monitor progress, adjust priorities, and stay motivated long-term.

HOW THE SWIM ANALYSIS WORKS

The swim analysis is completed in several steps, directly poolside.

First, before the session, you will complete a questionnaire covering:

  • your goals

  • your training volume

  • your injury history or any current pain

This information is essential, as it helps guide the in-pool analysis.

Next, the therapist completes an evaluation that includes:

  • joint mobility

  • posture

  • strength and motor control

  • any factors that may influence your swimming technique

For example, limited shoulder mobility can affect hand entry into the water or the pull phase.

  • Time to get changed.

  • Access to the locker rooms and shower (mandatory).

Once in the water, your swim stroke is filmed from multiple angles to assess your natural technique.

Recommendations are then provided and applied immediately. During the follow-up appointment, new footage is recorded to compare your technique before and after the adjustments.

To conclude, at the end of the session, your technical priorities are reviewed with you and the main corrections are clearly explained.

After the appointment, the video sequences are analyzed and summarized. You will then receive, by email, a recap video with your personalized recommendations, according to the following timeline:

  • If your appointment takes place before Friday at 12:00 p.m., the video will be sent the following Friday.

  • If your appointment takes place after 12:00 p.m. on Friday or during the weekend, the video will be sent the Friday of the following week.

This video allows you to review the recommended corrections and integrate them more easily into your training.
